Packing advice

Pack safely with suitable moving boxes.

Strong boxes, sensible weights and clear labels help protect belongings and allow furniture movers to work safely. Pack systematically rather than filling whatever container is nearest.

Purpose-made removal boxes are easier to stack and handle than mixed weak cartons.

Match the box to the contents

Books and heavy items

Use smaller removal boxes so the finished load remains manageable and the base is less likely to fail.

General household items

Medium boxes suit many kitchen, bedroom and living-room contents when packed without large empty gaps.

Light or specialist contents

Larger cartons, wardrobe boxes and picture protection are useful where the shape or material needs a different solution.

A straightforward packing method

  • Reinforce and tape the base before filling
  • Wrap breakable items individually
  • Use paper or suitable protection to prevent movement
  • Keep each box within a safe lifting weight
  • Seal the box rather than folding the flaps together
  • Label the room, contents and any handling warning

Pack the property in a useful order

Begin with seasonal possessions, books, decorations and rooms used least often. Leave everyday kitchen, bathroom and bedroom essentials until later.

Complete one room or defined area at a time. This makes the inventory easier to check and reduces boxes containing an unhelpful mixture of unrelated items.

Keep these items with you

  • Important documents and keys
  • Jewellery and irreplaceable personal items
  • Medication and immediate toiletries
  • Telephones, chargers and essential work equipment
  • Anything needed before the removal vehicle is unloaded

Ask for packing help if needed

Reigate Removals can discuss full packing, selected-room packing, fragile-item packing or supplying moving boxes and materials. Include the required service when requesting your estimate.

If packing yourself, give a realistic box quantity. Videos are useful supporting information, but the written inventory should remain complete.
