Moving-house checklist
Prepare for your move one stage at a time.
The most important arrangements begin before the first box is packed. Use this checklist to organise the removal, protect essential belongings and avoid preventable delays.

Before the date is confirmed
- Prepare a room-by-room furniture and box inventory
- Tell the remover about access and parking at both addresses
- Identify furniture that may need dismantling
- Decide whether you need packing materials or packing help
- Discuss storage if the dates may not align
- Remove items that you do not intend to take
Once the move is booked
- Arrange legal parking or loading space and any permits
- Confirm lift bookings or building restrictions
- Order suitable moving boxes if packing yourself
- Notify the organisations that need your new address
- Plan for pets, children and essential medication
- Measure large items and difficult entrances
During the final week
- Complete packing and label every box by destination room
- Keep valuables, documents and chargers separately
- Prepare appliances in accordance with their instructions
- Empty lofts, sheds, garages and storage cupboards
- Set aside an essentials box for the first night
- Confirm contacts, addresses and likely key arrangements
On moving day
- Keep the agreed parking space clear
- Walk through the property with the team leader
- Point out fragile and non-moving items
- Check every room and outdoor area before leaving
- Keep in contact if key-release timings change
- Direct furniture and boxes at the new property
Your first checks after moving
Confirm that essential services and security arrangements are working. Take meter readings where appropriate and keep the removal documents until you have checked the contents.
Unpack the rooms you need first and flatten boxes only after you are satisfied their contents are complete.
